ARE YOU AN EMDR-TRAINED THERAPIST LOOKING FOR EMDR CONSULTATIONS?
Kathy has nearly 25yrs experience as a licensed clinical professional counselor and 7yrs as an practicing EMDR clinician. She became an EMDRIA approved Consultant and loves working with clinicians who have been EMDR trained and need some additional support to bring the complicated training into practice. Kathy offers consultations to clinicians who have completed their EMDR Basic Training, and are seeking additional consultations, to clinicians who are interested in becoming EMDR-Certified.
In October 2019, Kathy began her journey by attending the 5-day Intensive EMDR training in person, with trainer Carole Lovell in Tennessee, under EMDR Consulting. Kathy pursued a more proficient understanding of EMDR, took several EMDR theory classes, and demonstrated application of EMDR with multiple individuals, to become EMDR certified in July 2021, under Consultant Krista Kastler, Heartland Play Therapy Institute, Kansas City, MO.Kathy is able to simplify this complicated yet highly effective therapy for youth, adults, and First Responders.
EMDR Certified Therapists are eligible to become EMDR Consultants. Consultants-in-training assist other basic-trained clinicians in using EMDR therapy, understanding the theory, and applying the protocol. In July 2023, Kathy began working with Ann Beckley Forest, LCSW, RPT-S, Playful EMDR, Buffalo, NY, as a consultant-in-training. She demonstrated the ability to assist newly trained EMDR clinicians with guidance and practice of their EMDR skills.
In June 2025, Kathy became an EMDRIA-Approved Consultant for EMDR and she offers both group and individual consultations for clinicians trained in EMDR.. Becoming an EMDRIA-approved consultant demonstrates a high level of expertise and commitment to EMDR therapy. It's a voluntary credential that enhances credibility, offers opportunities for consultation and leadership, and ultimately, improves the quality of EMDR therapy for clients. It also provides a path for therapists to deepen their understanding of EMDR.

Consultation is an essential part of the competent use of the EMDR protocol with children and the integration of EMDR with other models of therapy, such as play and talk therapy. Consultation is offered only to graduates of EMDRIA-approved Basic Training in EMDR. You must complete all basic training requirements, including the 10 hours of case presentation/consultation that is under your basic training provider, before seeking additional case consultations.
Following EMDR basic training, many people go on to become certified in EMDR, a process of accumulating case experience, continuing education, and a minimum of 20 hours of case consultation. Frequently asked questions about EMDR certification are best answered on EMDRIA’s website.
